A Fly fisher’s art
The Flies and Art of Bruce Corwin

I own a Graphic Design/Marketing and Printing company in New York State, about 30 minutes north of New York City. I was born in Brooklyn, New York and was fortunate enough as a youngster to spend summers in the Catskills where I learned to fish and appreciate being outdoors. My days were filled with discovery and education while I explored the treasures of a nearby small creek. One day during a hot July in the early 60’s, a kindly farmer offered to allow myself and a friend the chance to fish his little, stream-fed pond. He asked if we had ever caught a trout before and instructed us to “throw back” anything we caught. He handed each of us a mysterious looking contraption that he called a “fly” to put on the end of our lines along with a small, clear bubble float. And then, leaning in and covering his mouth, the secret… “don’t bother fishing until almost dark”. Needless to say, the only thing hooked that day was yours truly!

I love all types of fishing but have spent the last 30 years with a fly rod in hand. As a graphic artist and designer, fly tying was a natural extension of my creative side. It allowed me to stay close to fishing through the winter months. I’m involved in multiple fly fishing/tying groups including: The Hudson Valley Fly Fishers, Ray Bergman Chapter of TU and Joan Wulff Fly Fishers.  I’m a New York State Licensed Guide and have tied at numerous fly tying events including: The Mayfly Club, Art of the Angler’s Show, Fly Tier’s Rendezvous, The International Fly Tying Symposium and the Fly Fishing Show at Somerset, NJ, Lancaster, PA, and Raleigh, NC.
